Get out of the Book, Get out of the Box!

In 2008, I returned to Maryland after a 20 year tour in Georgia. I grew up in Ellicott City, but have the great privilege of living in BEAUTIFUL Annapolis, Maryland, surrounded by water!

While in Macon,Georgia, an indirect path led me to teaching. I continue to find motivation from a student  in Georgia who was a passionate football player who could not read.

Teaching in Georgia, I found great satisfaction in making a difference in the largest school in the district, where 56% of the students were at or below poverty level. I seek a similar position here, not at the "easy" school with the best equipment, but at the school where the students need the tough love teaching style I employ. Regardless of my resources, I attempt to find a way to challenge my students to do better than their best so they are equipped for life, and in turn, they find and follow their passion.

As gung-ho as all that sounds, I have found  a sense of humor, not sweating the small stuff and a large collection of Chuck Taylor All Stars go  a long way in building relationships with students!

Personally, at 50, I I have a high school and college freshman which remain my focus. My daughter is a fine arts major, and very passionate about art. My son is just as passionate about baseball, and I spend quite a bit of time involved in baseball related endeavors. I took off a few years after completing 9 masters courses in 9 months to follow my son and his passion for baseball around the state. I'll be in the batting cage soon...very therapeutic. After a very snowy winter, I am looking forward to getting out there and watching some baseball.

Once I give myself a MEd in Instructional Technology for my birthday, I hope to start a dual degree in Distance Learning over the summer.
